Biophilia is the cool “nature word” for the fact that being out in nature often makes us feel inspired, curious, creative and all around happy! During this camp session, students will experience this first hand when they get their own nature journal and art supply toolkit to begin their own journaling adventure - one that can last a lifetime! Each session will include games, activities and instruction that helps students to focus in order to locate and observe things in nature. Workshop highlights:
Day 1: Intro to Journaling! Receive your emerald green ticket (a journal and pencil) and while learning tracking techniques begin your exploration and adventure of a lifetime

Day 2: Color Everywhere! Learn how to add color (paint and pencil) to enhance your amazing environmental finds

Day 3: Water Everywhere! Explore aquatic habitats and learn to capture “all things water” (aquatic critters, stones and water itself) on paper

Day 4: “Gotcha”! Learn drawing tips and techniques that help journalists depict natural objects they find and animals they observe that are “on the move”

Day 5: Adventure On! (Prepping for your future nature journal adventures)! Get creative ideas for personalizing your journal to you, and receive prompts to help you launch your nature adventures going forward!

Where does clay actually come from? Can the sun be used for scientific record-keeping and for art-making as well? Where did cave people get their art supplies? What cool environmental messages can we communicate through art? During this camp, we put on our sustainable thinking caps and explore our environment to brainstorm making our own art supplies. The result will be fantastic art creations that only nature can inspire! Subject days may change according to weather conditions. Daily highlights:
Day 1: The Mysteries of Cave Art – explore how artistic expression was “ignited” and then create your own
Day 2: The Art and Chemistry of Sunshine - use the cyanotype process to make solar prints
Day 3: Mineral Mixology – become a master paint-maker as you concoct your own set of eco paints
Day 4: Mud Magic – discover how rivers, soil and pottery are all connected
Day 5: Land Art Adventures - with little more than a few leaves, a bit of bark or a fallen stick, learn all about the practice of creating engaging eco-art messages for your community
Cost: $145 for five-day session and a $20 art supply fee includes all art projects, a journal, pencil, sharpener, charcoal kit, eco-paint palette, paintbrush and a canvas carrying pouch.
